Bella's Christmas Cookies
Christmas traditions are one of my favorite parts of Christmas. In my Christmas novella, Getting Home for Christmas, Bella shares her favorite tradition, decorating her mom’s delicious cookies. Here is the recipe for the melt-in-your mouth sugar cookies Bella describes. They will fill your house with a sweet holiday scent, and fill your season with warm holiday memories.
Ingredients:
-
2 ½ cups all purpose flour
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon cinnamon
-
1 cup butter, at room temperature (this is important!)
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
1 large egg
-
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions:
-
In a bowl, sift together flour, salt and cinnamon. Set aside
-
Cream together sugar and butter. Add in egg and vanilla. Mix until combined.
-
Slowly add in dry flour mixture and mix until combined. Be careful not to over mix!
-
For dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in refrigerator for at least an hour.
-
Remove dough from fridge and roll out on a lightly floured surface until it is ¼ inch thick. Cut out using your favorite Christmas-shaped cookie cutters.
-
Bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes.
-
Let cool then ice with your favorite icing.
-
Enjoy!
*note* for softer cookies, you can add a ½ teaspoon backing powder to the dry ingredients.
